This is a couple weeks old, but check this shit out. Virus and Rhek got down on several buildings in downtown Vancouver a couple weekends back, and i checked out the last spot they hit before the rain and bullshit took its toll on the technology.

Here’s some cut n pasted shits from the New Forms Festival website:

Virus

Virus is a style gangster!! OG at the least!! Buck Buck!!!:king:
- random comment, graffiti.org
Along with Dedos, Virus formed the backbone of the infamous AA Crew that were all-city kings of Van for the better part of the 1990’s… nuf’ said.

Rhek

Rhek is trying to grow up and is thus considering a career as a Latino or a Mexican. Still he’s so hood that he wears his pants below his waist and he never dances when he’s in this place. Other than that he’s a total original in that he’s both a DJ and does graphic design and is also starting a t-shirt line (www.sharksandhammers.com). He longer wants to get arrested.

and here’s what i saw:

Team Cream open for business!

I’ve had my first run of shirts printed for a while now, but were on ice while I was working out the painstaking details of oh, de-stitching and removing each individual label, and sewing back in a tag of my own design…99 problems and a shirt was all of em! Well guess what, live and learn, lo and behold, the bitches are ready for retail! My first design depicts the don divas supreme Cher and Dionne (of the quintessential chick-flick of life, Clueless, for you dudes who ain’t know…) with fuschia detailing (loves me some nails and gloss!) and Team Cream overlay. Aside from repping what i know and like, the shirt reflects my mindset (eager and hungry as hell!) and knowledge (uhhh how do i use photoshop? fuck it im drawing out the name in my ugly handwriting, it is what it is!). And with my foray into the world of fashion finally underway (in the making since i was born!) i’m more hyped than ever to learn from my surroundings, and mistakes (hopefully not many) and just keep putting the insanity in my head onto some ill shit, and onto all y’all’s hot little bods! That goes ditto for the homeboys, cause i know you’re gonna wanna cop what I got comin’ out soon.

Anyways, BIG UP COMPLEX for giving me space in their lovely stores, both Gastown and Victoria locations. Now cop the shirts, and rep the CREAM!

You can’t stop rap!

I shook off the lil’ Sunday flu I was feelin’ to partake in the video shoot for a joint from local rap duo Fatt Snak (consisting of Hali legend Fatt Matt and rap rookie of the year and Low Pressure Records’ latest acquisition, Snak the Ripper). It was good grimy fun from the get-go as we rolled near 20-deep, one by one through a crackhead-sized hole in a chain link fence to our set, complete with all-too-real props such as hypodermic needles, used condoms and soiled hooker garb (Sumi strikes again!). Unfortunately, half-expectedly and appropriately, production shut down halfway though, as 5-0 appeared to bust a midday custom bombing sesh courtesy of a certain grafitti guest hosssssst. If you do get the chance, come down, sip some, smoke some, show off, and show support at your next local whateveawhatevas, cause this is the shit that brings the heads together to make this city’s history, and you can look back when you’re all sober and kid-ridden and be like, “look how cool I was”, right? Here’s a behind the scenes teaser:

Check out Fatt Snak at the lamplighter’s new monday rap night, TONIGHT!

Money Over Bullshit

The novelty and tradition of mascots has always been seeming harmless enough to me, the icon’s (publicly declared) purpose being to extend a “warm welcome” to the organization, or (friendlier word) team, it represents. But if you think about it, or spell it out, as i am, these pimps are exposed for just that, what they truly are, corporate whores with no morals, telling us what we wanna hear, “Snowboarding is rad!” “I’m a shy sasquatchian creature, not to be confused with The Sasquatch©, and i’m shyyyy” “sure, middle class residents will be able to afford to see us in 2010!”. They cater to our deepest desires and darkest fetishes by being who we want them to be (yeah, that’s it, on your knees, Sea-Bear…) when their main function and intent remains to be a profit. So before you get all gung-ho on those hoes, think about this: We as fans/supporters/consumers/johns have already been taking tax lickings for Sumi’s fancy hooker garb, So we ain’t payin for head. Money has and continues to be taken from our pockets every day in excess for something that should be so trivial, such as 3 little cartoon ambassadors, but in the big picture the motive is big money, and advertising this city to the world is big bucks for the heads in Vancouver. I don’t know much about politics, and so am never inclined to speak on it on the daily, which is i’m sure a frequent stance among youth in any place, especially a big city (i know we just tryin’ ta live!). But maybe if we take the time to contemplate how our city’s workin for us, we can become better voters…. PSYCHE! naw, but on the real, it’s important to question, and research, and form educated opinions on shit like where our money is going and how it could be better spent (affordable housing, erradicating the poverty level or drug epidemic anyone?). And with great knowledge of pimping the system comes great (personal) wealth. Who am i kidding we all tycoons. Stay away from my milkshake, bitches.
