Money Over Bullshit

The novelty and tradition of mascots has always been seeming harmless enough to me, the icon’s (publicly declared) purpose being to extend a “warm welcome” to the organization, or (friendlier word) team, it represents. But if you think about it, or spell it out, as i am, these pimps are exposed for just that, what they truly are, corporate whores with no morals, telling us what we wanna hear, “Snowboarding is rad!” “I’m a shy sasquatchian creature, not to be confused with The Sasquatch©, and i’m shyyyy” “sure, middle class residents will be able to afford to see us in 2010!”. They cater to our deepest desires and darkest fetishes by being who we want them to be (yeah, that’s it, on your knees, Sea-Bear…) when their main function and intent remains to be a profit. So before you get all gung-ho on those hoes, think about this: We as fans/supporters/consumers/johns have already been taking tax lickings for Sumi’s fancy hooker garb, So we ain’t payin for head. Money has and continues to be taken from our pockets every day in excess for something that should be so trivial, such as 3 little cartoon ambassadors, but in the big picture the motive is big money, and advertising this city to the world is big bucks for the heads in Vancouver. I don’t know much about politics, and so am never inclined to speak on it on the daily, which is i’m sure a frequent stance among youth in any place, especially a big city (i know we just tryin’ ta live!). But maybe if we take the time to contemplate how our city’s workin for us, we can become better voters…. PSYCHE! naw, but on the real, it’s important to question, and research, and form educated opinions on shit like where our money is going and how it could be better spent (affordable housing, erradicating the poverty level or drug epidemic anyone?). And with great knowledge of pimping the system comes great (personal) wealth. Who am i kidding we all tycoons. Stay away from my milkshake, bitches.
